CLIENT PROFILE

Located in downtown Santa Fe among centuries-old architecture and adobe buildings, The New Mexican is the historic city's only daily newspaper. Locally owned, they have been serving the community for 159 years. Offering printed and online versions, the publication is committed to providing content that is relevant to the local population of over 70,000 in America's oldest capital city.

CHALLENGE

The renovation of The New Mexican's facility involved moving production to another building permanently while gutting the interior of the existing building and adding a second storey for their office. Desiring an open work environment, they also wanted a furniture system that can be easily reconfigured to meet changing requirements. Conscious of rising energy costs, they included many windows and skylights in the building and needed a furniture solution that would allow maximum penetration of natural light in their workspace.

SOLUTION

Flexibility Mindful of the growth of the internet as an information source and it's effect on the newspaper industry, Inscape's Platform system was selected to provide maximum flexibility so they could easily reconfigure and adjust their workspace as their business needs change.

Functional Environment Lower-height Platform panels and glazed tiles were used to create workstations that provide a feeling of openness while allowing the penetration of natural light and savings on energy costs; long worksurface areas were specified so newspaper layouts could be easily spread out for reviewing and editing.

Technology Management Platform's high-capacity electrical/data chimneys and cable managers enable easy distribution of the ceiling-feed power to the workstations.

Aesthetic Organic-shaped worksurfaces from Platform's standard offering help give this project the look of organic forms instead of cube-like structures; textiles and finish selections were selected to complement the architecture and style of the historic building.
