Challenge:

“Identified as the largest DoD (Department of Defense) project in 2009, the challenge was to meet the objective of the Air Force to relocate and provide all new furnishings and equipment for over 1,900 people within 20 months in a largely vacant, unimproved 450,000 sq. ft. facility in Port San Antonio, Texas.”

Packaged Solution:

Inscape’s dealer, Concert Architectural Interiors, was instrumental in winning this project. They were selected as a ‘packaged furniture services’ contractor to provide management, procurement and installation of furnishings. Within a week of being awarded the contract, Concert met end users with initial plan drawings for immediate review. They met the project’s unprecedented schedule while maintaining outstanding customer service and relationships.”

How Do Movable Walls Compare to Drywall?

December 20, 2010

Change is the only constant in business.

If you are planning to move, reconfigure, or renovate your space, you might find yourself asking the question, “How do movable walls compare to drywall?” Movable walls not only make it easier to reconfigure and refurbish your space, they also give you the freedom to create attractive, flexible, and highly functional solutions that are tailored to your organization.

Let’s take a look at just what kinds of savings and benefits you can expect to achieve with movable walls:

COST

Movable Walls

Cost-competitive when you include all costs — doors, hardware, framing, trim, glazing and vinyl

Less expensive to install — only one trade required

No disposal costs on reconfiguration

Drywalls

May seem less expensive until you do a real   “apples to apples” comparison

Higher installation costs — six or more trades plus supervision required

Reconfiguration requires disposal — adds to cost

INSTALLATION

Movable Walls

Fast, clean installation

Pre-finished — no further painting or finishing needed

Less disruptive to employees — reduced absenteeism

Non-damaging to floors and ceilings

Drywalls

Slow, messy installation

Needs paint or other finishes — adds to time, costs,  environmental considerations

Cannot be done with employees working nearby

Damages both floors and ceilings

FLEXIBILITY

Movable Walls

Reconfiguration can be done in hours

Many choices of wall, glazing, and door types – specifying is easy

Drywalls

Reconfiguration takes weeks

Design choices will require planning, specifying and additional purchases

Concert Architectural Interiors offers movable wall systems by INSCAPE. Grabbing from Inscape, “When you add up complete project costs including those for installation, demolition, paint or coverings, hardware and the time required to install and reconfigure and all related hardware, you’ll see you come out ahead with movable walls. And of course, you get built-in flexibility that’s simply not possible with drywall. Compare for yourself.”

Any panel can be replaced without ever needing to move adjacent panels:

With movable walls, you have total control over door and panel styles, color schemes, and other design variables. This makes almost any workspace scenario possible and movable walls employable in nearly any environment.

More Benefits of Movable Walls over Drywall:

  • Depreciated as furniture, not with the building; therefore easy to cost-justify.
  • 95% reusable, contributing to buildings that are easy on the environment.
  • Eliminate the need for fixed construction and drywall.
  • Allow finishes and designs not readily available with constructed walls.
  • Offer a variety of styles and materials, from wood to glass.
